That the government collaborate with CPRA to conduct a pan-Canadian inventory of municipal parks, trails, and green spaces to identify those not currently identified as Protected Areas (PAs) or Other Effective Conservation Measures (OECMs) but meet the criteria for those designations.

There is an urgent need to protect and expand urban green space to ensure communities are climate resilient. Access to green space has protective health effects, particularly during extreme heat.

This will help Canada achieve its ambitious Target One commitments, reverse the decline in biodiversity, combat and mitigate the impacts of climate change, and support community climate resiliency.

How can CPRA help?

CPRA is affiliated with municipalities across Canada. We can work collaboratively with Indigenous communities, F/P/T governments, and NGOs to identify, assess, promote, and expand the network of protected areas located in municipalities across Canada.
